All photo sessions are held at outdoor at a location of your choice or your home. I also have been plenty of awesome local places and would be happy to give suggestions of locations to fit your vision. Keep in mind some locations require a permit and if you have your heart set on that location the cost of the permit would be added on to your session. We would also need at least two weeks to process the permit.
For family sessions, we prefer to hold these sessions when the light is at its best. This is typically an hour or two before sunset and just after sunrise. I try to avoid midday sessions as the sun is bright and high in the sky causing subjects to squint. Newborn sessions in home are really up to you and the baby's schedule. I find mid morning is usually best.
Pet's are definitely family! If you would like to bring a well-trained pet to your session they are welcome and they count as an additional "child/person" for your session fee. You should have a handler that is not being photographed to take the pet for photos where he/she isn't included.
I take very limited newborn sessions per year. Let me know what your due date is and once you deliver, contact me as soon as you can and we pick a firm date for the session within the 2-week post-delivery window.
Ideally, most newborn sessions are photographed within that first 14 day period. That is when babies are their most sleepiest and easier to pose. I have limited wraps, headbands, etc that I take with me for solo baby photos but I try to capture a more documentary style approach with family members as well.
Images are delivered directly to clients in a private online gallery. All images will be hi-res, fully edited, with a mix of color + black and white. It takes me about 2-3 weeks to edit photos depending on the type of session, but it's well worth the wait!
At the point of delivery, you'll be able to download the images to your device, share directly to social media, or print them through my lab on the gallery.
If we’re approaching your session date and rain is in the forecast, there are a lot of things we can do. We can move your shoot indoors to a coffee shop, bookstore, studio space, or others. We can keep our shoot outside! I have a fab clear golf-size umbrella that makes for magical photos on dreary days, or I know of several covered spots that are outdoors but will keep us dry. And if neither of those work, we can also reschedule.
This is a very common question from clients booking family and senior sessions. Simple clothing choices are best for creating timeless portraits that aren’t easily dated. I suggest solid colors, avoiding busy patterns, stripes or logos/words. Bold logos and cartoon characters are cute for playtime but can look out of place for your child’s portraits. Jeans, sundresses, khakis are classics and photograph well.
Accessories can add a great amount of visual interest to your photos. Think hats, scarves, belts, and layers. Bare feet are especially fun, and capture the essence of childhood.
If children are being photographed together, clothes that are similar in style give a more coordinated look. However, dressing the entire family in the same outfit (i.e. white shirts and khakis) tends to limit the look and feel of the session.
At the end of the day, you should dress yourself and your family in clothing that makes you most comfortable and captures who you are. As always, please feel free to contact me for further questions on clothing.
Fill out the contact form, or email me and we will set up a phone consultation. You will receive a questionnaire by email after I respond to your contact form. I will answer all your questions about your session during our chat. If you are then ready to book we will set a date and I will email you a contract as well as an invoice for your session fee.
